Troubleshooting

1. The pull down screen menu does not appear.

Answer
: The support file search path is not set correctly.  You can set it manually:
 Set up the support path manually.


2. No text is output to the Excel file when I Export text.

Error message: [\] Please wait...Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.

Answer:
If you use a 64-bit AutoCAD, you also need to to install the database driver: "AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe" (it is in the zip: "dwgtexttrans201X_64").  This driver requires Excel 2010 or 2013 (64-bit).


3. AutoCAD crashes when I start DwgTextTranslator from it's desktop icon.

Answer: DwgTextTranslator has been installed to the "C:/Program files" directory.  Un-install DwgTextTranslator (you can do this in the control panel of your Windows), and re-install DwgTextTranslator to another directory, for instance the root directory: "c:/dwgtrans".


4. The setup.exe gives this error message:

Answer: The installer did not fully complete.  The DwgTextTranslator's files were copied to the "dwgtrans" directory, but the "dwgtrans" profile was not created.  You need to set up the environment manually, to complete the installation:
Set up the support path manually.

5. I get an error "base.dcl" Can't find file.

Answer: You must locate your BASE.DCL file, which is usually in the folder (or similar one) shown below.  Do a search on your computer to locate the folder this file is in.  Then in the AutoCAD "Options" "support file search path" this should be the first path in the list.

Username is your name or the name used on the computer.

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2007\R17.0\enu\Support

Type OPTIONS at the command line.
Select the Files tab.
Select Support File Search Path in the list.
Press the Add button.
Press the Browse button.
Browse to the missing support path and press OK.
Press the Move Up button to move the new support path to the top of the list.
Press OK to close the Options dialog and save the change.

6.  The menu does not appear.

Answer:  To display the menu, click Quick Access Toolbar drop-down > Show Menu Bar.

7.  The menu does still not appear.

Answer: You must allow AutoCAD to load the "menuload.lsp" file.  Type at the AutoCAD command prompt: (load "MenuLoad.lsp)", check the toggle "Always load this application" and press the button "Load".

8.  The toolbars are not showing.

Answer: You may have to delete intermediate files: Navigate with the Windows file explorer to the "dwgtrans" directory, and double click on the "CLEAN.BAT" file.  Restart AutoCAD.
